Munaf Patel was also given a lifeline ahead of the World Cup after being called up for the two games. Munaf Patel's fitness has long been a subject of intense debate after the bowler was accused of hiding his injury during the tour of South Africa.

It is believed that Sachin Tendulkar will be rested for a game or two against Sri Lanka, and that move may perhaps open the doors for Sehwag in the middle order, given the form of the current Indian openers - Sourav Ganguly and Robin Uthappa.
