Now theirs nothing to chose between the next gen DVD’s. Toshiba has announced that it successfully manage to create a triple-layer HD DVD that holds a staggering 51GB, thats 1 GB more then its rival the Blu-ray. Previously the HD-DVD’s could only store up to 15GB and 30GB respectively.
This move as it seems was bound to happen as Blu-ray discs were performing far better then HD-DVD in terms of market capitalization. The HD-DVD at present are struggling to keep pace with the Blu-Ray, a Nielsen report showed the Blu Ray disks are outpacing HD-DVD by two to one. But it still seems a little hazy for the HD-DVD’s at the moment, thou adding a third layer could only make matters worse as it will increase mass production costs or time.
If we are correct then, Toshiba might launch this new discs before the year end. Till then we can only hope that Sony dishes out a 100GB Blu-Ray ;).
