South Africa skipper Graeme Smith and coach Mickey Arthur slammed the authorities for giving them an unfit pitch.Pakistan may have won the warm-up match against South Africa with ease, but that did not stop Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer from joining Smith and Arthur in slamming the pitch after play was held up for seven minutes.
“I don’t think we are going to play on pitches like here in this competition. If my information is right, the pitches are going to be a huge lot better than this pitch was,” Arthur said at the post match conference, a game that South Africa lost to Pakistan.
“It will definitely be a ‘bowl first’ wicket. If it is, then those who are batting first aren’t going to do very well. So there will have to be some strategies to bat first and win from those situations,” Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer said.
After the Champions Trophy in India, bowlers may enjoy the conditions in the Caribbean as well. So far, the indifferent nature of pitches has surprised teams and forced them to rethink their strategies.
