so there’s running games and “running” games!

Civilization 4 will absolutely not run on vista home edition. I even installed DX again and put the resolution down.
I have a new laptop which came with this stupid software, and I will be reformatting and installing XP tomorrow. What a piece of junk.
And the macintosh ad making fun of “cancel and allow” was spot on, every single action you take is questioned by the system.
April 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 pm
lionmacgregor says Freedom Fighters works (with some minor graphical problems) but when I run the game on my Vista, there are no graphical problems whatsoever but the game just runs twice as fast. When I move my character, he runs extremely fast, en also conversations are way faster than it normally should be like…
Does anyone know a solution for that? (I’ve tried XP compatibility mode and also run as administrator) My specs are way above the minimum requirements.
April 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 pm
its good that the game is fast…
wats da problm then??

Does anyone know if Caesar IV and Star Wars Empir At War works with vista? I have 32 bit and an nvidia 7300 le.
April 15th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
It depends on the system you have. I’m running a quad core with 2gigs corsair. My system still crashes due to the crappy 8800 nvidia drivers for vista. Many of these games crash due to this.
April 16th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
guru3d.com has some unofficial 8800 drivers u all can test those thou. But personally Vista = to shit maybe someone might hack DX 10 support for XP one day i just don’t want to go to Vista again.
April 16th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

I am trying to play Gothic 3 on my brand new HP with Vista. It gets through the loading process after I hit New Game and then the screen goes black and it says, Caused a Exception Access Violation in Module at 011B:0000005A.
I noticed you said that there are two files that Vista will not allow the program to download. Is there a way to play this game.
Thanks a lot.

The list says that SimCity 4 is vista compaitable, but for me it will only install half way before it freezes and won’t go on. is there anything I can do?
April 28th, 2007 at 10:05 am
The List says that Sim City 4 is compatible for Vista 64-bit only. Maybe you are running Vista 32-bit?
April 28th, 2007 at 11:54 am
Hahah how whacked is that?
Who wants to run Vista64? Its as slow as hell.
Vista32 wont install Simcity4 due to a problem with the Securom Protection on the game, I dont think there is any way around it, short of installing XP again ;-)
May 2nd, 2007 at 10:13 am
I’ve got Vista64 and it runs beautifully. granted I had some driver issues with all the latest hardware but now, blisteringly fast. COH, Sim City 4, BF2 with minor issues, SWEET. As long as Oblivion and BF2 runs till future releases (Crysis and Bioshock) I’m happy.
May 6th, 2007 at 8:23 am
i keep getting a message with oblivian when i try to install saying it is not compatable with a 64 bit operating system.. depressing
May 6th, 2007 at 11:41 am
If you get a message then its the 32bit version and maybe not possible to be used on 64bit
One thing that i dont understand is why do people use 64bit vista.
Vista 32bit itself has lot of problems and one can imagine how a 64bit would be.
May 9th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Oblivion runs fine on my Vista64 as per most new games. Don’t know what your problems are guys. Drivers? Legit copies of games? The only hiccups were in the early days of installation as per drivers, now, as before, sweet.

Morrowind works perfectly.

Age of Mythology and Titans expansion pack works perfectly.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
I tried to install AOE2. It looks like it is installing, gets to 51%, where it needs to copy the TTF and it hangs there. There is no error message, and it doesn’y quit after a bit, just kinda sits there. I finally have to ctrl+alt+del to get it to shut down. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong, or what it takes to fix it? Oh, BTW, C&C3 works perfectly, but who would of doubted that.

June 4th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
i cant get battlefield 2 to work on my vista home premium 32 bit. any suggestions?
June 5th, 2007 at 1:59 am
Battlefield games…on my Home Premium I just put them in compatibility mode. You right-click on the desktop icon, open “Properties”, go to “Compatibility”, then set it for XP SP 2. You may also want to run as an admin.
June 5th, 2007 at 6:51 am
I have very important news for Vista gaming!!! You guys know how games crash somtimes, and have….errors? Like in STALKER, the sky will only show on anyhting besides static lighting. I have just found a solution for this STALKER problem and many others.
Vista, of course, can only read about 2 gigs of memory. Most games need 3 gigs…there is a way to make Vista read 3 without screwing up your games with complicated mods…
You have to go into “system” in the system options (RAM, processor speed) then click on “Advanced System Settings.” then go to “Advanced,” then “Performance.” Go to “Advanced” under Performance, then click “Change” on the bottom. Click on “Custom” size, then put “3067″ in both tabs. This will change the System Paging File size, allowing Vista to read more memory. I just found this out, just wanted to share it with the world (mostly the world of STALKER players).
June 5th, 2007 at 8:45 am
Warcraft 3 doesnt work for me in vista, could install when set compatibility to xp service pack 2 but coulndt update it to v1.21.
When cracked and brought over from my other laptop, the game would not run under XP or windows98/me compatibility.
Just a blank screen. excluded visual screen and desktop composition and same crap.
Vista really pisses me off.
June 5th, 2007 at 9:52 am
ha ha! Vista is real head-ache. Rather play games in Windows XP. Thats the best suggestion.
June 5th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
The sims works and I’m guessing all the expansion packs do too.
June 6th, 2007 at 8:31 am
Gabe, you fixed my one niggle with STALKER, you’re a genius. Didn’t even think of that one. +CoH runs more frames and I’m sure you,ve fixed a few other peoples problems as well. Just to throw my 2 cents worth in, try installing under Run as an Administrator and then run the exe as an administrator. That seemed to get a couple more games going for me.
June 18th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Try opening the game explorer and right clicking the game you want to play. Then select run as administrator. This is how i got Sims 2 running for my girlfriend on her laptop.
June 18th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

June 20th, 2007 at 11:46 am
Sorry accidently submited it.I meant to write can you guys please give me a link or tell me here what games are compatiable with windows vista ULTIMATE.
June 20th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Amanda,
I think I ran into the same issue with RCT3 on my XP Box, and I had to do a couple things to fix it. I had to run it in Windowed Mode. I would also suggest trying compatibility Mode in Vista, so it runs as Windows XP SP2. You may also want to run it with Administrator Access. These are explained further up in this Post.
June 20th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

June 27th, 2007 at 6:59 pm
i am an idiot when it comes to computers how do i know if i have 32 bit or 64 bit?
June 27th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Jon Doe,
Vista Ultimate runs most games easier than any other version of Vista. It’s by far the easiest of the Vista’s to work with (its not so user-friendly its annoying). I do know, Aero function does tend to screw some game engines up, but other than that, any of the games listed above should work with your Ultimate Vista.
*Side note, if you would maybe ask more politely, people would be more inclined to answer your questions…
Also, to the user above who could not get AOE2 installed onto Vista - It’s one of two things. Being a huge AOE2 fan myself, I know ti works great on my version of Windows Vista Ultimate.
1 - Your CD is either scratched or mudded up. Try cleaning it really good. I had a CD of AOE2 I tried to install, and the smallest little scratch on the surface wouldn’t let me get past 45%. Got a new CD, and it worked fine.
2 - Either UAC (User Account Control), FireWall, or Hard drive space. Check all of those. If you still can’t get it to install, try disabling a couple of the Windows Safegaurd components.
June 27th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
Keatre,
Thank you for your answer. I have waited for a while to hear something, but I will be sure to check that over when I get home. I also have an XP box I can try it on, so I am gonna try installing it there, to see if it truly is an issue with Vista, or the disk itself. Anyways, thanks again, and I will be sure to post, if one of those fixes the issue
June 29th, 2007 at 7:39 am
Thanks for the help,I was a bit rude, but come on. Anyway thanks for the help.
June 29th, 2007 at 2:03 pm

July 20th, 2007 at 3:57 am
See nobody helps
July 20th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
People i guess you all need a “Forum” it would be a little better to discuss this stuffs. we can only do this much help. We don’t have all the games in the universe to test it up in Vista. So if you’ll need a forum just post up.
July 22nd, 2007 at 8:18 am
i installed titan quest and updated it to v 1.30. i have windows vista… when i try to enter the game, screen goes black and just that. i cannot play the game.
July 23rd, 2007 at 8:29 am
for call of duty 2 it seems vista comes with directX 10, and 9 is needed. for some reason vista really needs 10, so no downgrading, and dual installing XP with vista…i would rather hammer my special places with a big rubber hammer. i would really really appreciate a detailed solution to my probably simple issue.
July 26th, 2007 at 10:43 am

Hey i don’t think it is compatible with Vista. Only Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion runs on vista but after patching it up. I only use Vista for the internet for gaming i just have made a dual boot windows XP. I think its MS’s worst OS till date, No Woow here just plain A$$.

July 28th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

Does Battlefield 1942 work without problems?
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:09 pm
I still don’t think of Windows Vista as my Gaming OS..
and Anyone who does any PC heavy gaming shouldn’t be running Windows Vista as their Main OS.
Just like when Windows XP came out, I used to have a Dual-Boot with Windows 98 to run my games (Better Performance), and XP for the rest because of it’s stability…
So I would be waiting for SP2 to start considering moving all my computers to the newer OS, but as Of now and the coming months, I’m sticking with Windows XP.

August 13th, 2007 at 11:19 am
@Grant
Please bear in mind we don’t have all the games in the universe to test! so we have troubles in giving honest comments on few games. So i guess you should go to the games official sites to get patches related to vista.
@John Doe
Well we want to help everyone, but the thing i said aboves is very true. We need help from people like you. Also we setup a forum this week @ http://www.thinktechno.com/forum/
which is a more appropriate place for discussion of topics like this please go there.
Thanks

My AOE 2 installs fine in vista but when I go to start it, a msg asks me to insert the playing disk which is already inserted. Reinserting and trying again dose nothing. I have tried all the changes to run in XP compatibility mode but nothing happened. Also I am running a dell, is this bad?
Any suggestions?

Settlers 2 demo on Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Install as admin takes forever and a day to kick in. The mouse cursor does not display, although I can move it around and it will flicker sometimes so i can see it. I do have a wacom, trackball, and usb mouse attached which may be the problem.
August 25th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Well Vista 32bit sucks big time. 64Bit is a bigger crap. I recommend dual booting XP and vista. We all have problems with Vista. I dual boot with Xp and Vista.

September 21st, 2007 at 8:28 am
Having a problem with Black and White 2 here as well. Made it through the first 3 levels just fine, now it keeps shutting down in the middle of level 4, but not at the same point. It seems random. I’ve installed both of the available patches, anyone have other suggestions? I also recently rebuilt my computer, so I’m trying to rule out hardware problems. I think it’s not overheating.
September 21st, 2007 at 9:17 am
Have you tried updating the video card drivers. This problem isn’t that common. Try updating everything video, CPU, sound anything.

I’m having problems with vista installing Rome Total War does anyone have a idea what I should do
October 6th, 2007 at 9:04 am
Chris:
What exactly is the problem when you install it? I loaded Rome:Total War onto my Vista Laptop and it runs 10,000 men bettles perfectly. So where are you getting issues when loading it?
October 6th, 2007 at 11:07 am
@ Chris, Dude can you tell the problem elaborately so we can diagnose it. Vista version, Your system config and the problem that occurs.
October 6th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
I have windows vista home premium 32 bit and when I start downloading it says error1305.error reading from file c:/program files/activation/Rome total war/data/sounds/voice 1 dat. verify that file exist and that you can access it. It says I can hit retry or cancel but when I retry I can download most of it but when it’s at the end of downloading it says the same thing and I can’t go on to the second disk.
October 6th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
Seems like i found out a solution, try this links and check if they solve the problem…..if yes feel the pleasure to tell us.

yeah, but this dude here asked how to play worms world party here?? I cant either, because its slow as hell!
PLEASE come back to me, i want it to work since i now can play online as much as i please.;)
By the way, Morrowind works, but the only problem i had though was getting out of the prison ship at the beginning, but i think it was a patch or i renamed a file or something. Google it!
Didnt bother playing it though, thought it was boring..
But again! Worms World Party! HELP!
October 8th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
@ Sigbjørn can you tell me the problem. Any error message or just other things.
October 13th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Hey I’ve just been told I’m getting Vista with my replacement lappy.
I’m really curious as to if any issues with Fable: Lost Chapter has been resolved and is SpellForce compatible? I bought a load of games for my last laptop but the specs weren’t right but now, those are right and I’m concerned about the OS.
I’m not a very technical person so dumbed down help would be appreciated ;)

October 13th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
@ kari
If you wanna play games, i rather suggest you using windows XP rather then Vista……….With Vista you won’t be able to enjoy games……..black screens, dumb ass errors ! If you really wanna install Vista….make a dual both operating system… Vista and Xp
October 13th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
I kinda have no choice about the Vista. My lappy died and Vista is what insurance company is providing me with and I dont have a copy of xp anyways. So vista is what i’m stuck with
Kiri
October 13th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Well in Vista games have different problems with different system configuration.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
So if I find out my system config, I’ll be able to get more specific advise?
And thanks btw ^_^
October 13th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Well yes, try to find it before 15th, i’m going for a college trip on 16th till 28th. I’m a student. ;)
October 13th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Ok, i’ll try to elaborate my problem.
I start the game right? No error messages or anything.
The menu pops up, and it is extremely slow! I also tried in-game, but its slow there aswell, making the game unusable.
So the only problem here is the fact that it is extremely slow, I simply dont get any error or stuff.
Ive heard something about it being a problem with the graphics card, that you must use an old graphics card, but im not willing to downgrade mine.(Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE)
Hope that helped you.
October 13th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Well i have no idea…. have you tried there official forums? Downgrading the drivers make work out. Or try unofficial hacked drivers from http://downloads.guru3d.com/ tell me if it worked.
October 15th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
I installed Legacy of Kain - Defiance on my Vista Ultimate 32-bit and it works fine, but sometimes you get a black screen when starting the game.
Onimusha 3 Demon Siege also works, even though The choppy framerate is a little annoying, I don`t really know if is a Vista issue because I didn’t test it on XP. There is a official patch that claims to fix a framerate issue, but I found it useless.
Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition needs the official v1.3 patch to run on Vista.
Need for Speed Carbon also needs a patch to work. (if you run it without the patch in win 98/ME compatibility mode it works buts crashes often).
I recommend to install games on vista not on Program files folder because The default security setting doesn’t allow the game to write inside the game folder, causing errors on many games. Install outside the System folders, or install it on another hard drive.
Does anyone know if Grandia II or Obscure works on Vista?

Yeah, i searched he forums alot, and thats the only thing they said i could do, and i do refuse downgrading my graphic card, because then i wont be able to play other stuff.
What are the unofficial hacked drivers? Are they downgrading my card aswell?
I’ll try getting Worms Armageddon instead then, because i think its more compatible, and are other solutions.

How did you managed to run Onimusha 3 on Vista? I installed it, but after the first cgi opening movie begins, like a few seconds in it shuts down. It also begins in window mode, not in full screen, I have to press ALT+ENTER to make it full screen. Can you tell how did you installed it?

Battlefield works fine if you right click on the shortcut and select “run as administrator”
That was the game can scan your system, prove you’re not hacking and you won’t get punkbustered.
I think it’s lame that you could write about it and not be able to figure that out.
You guys suck.
