Guess what the European PS3 is strange animal. If you have seen the American PS there was a PS2 chipset attached to the motherboard to PS3 backward compatible with Ps2 games. The PS2 games are played using some emulation softwares in the European version. This is mainly because of the huge cost Sony has been taking with the already costly Cell processor and to minimize production losses removal of PS2 chipset was matter of time. Also we have rumors that the upcoming PS3 will have limited PS2 capabilities. Just check the pictures, you would witness how barebone the PS3 has become.
