Before saying anything of the future, first let me say something of the present scenario. At present a type of ‘MOBILE REVOLUTION’ is going on in the whole of India. Almost everyone, even the “Rickshawalas” and farmers own mobiles. I have myself experience some farmers talking on the mobile phone while working in his field. Coming towards the cities, we find mobile phones in each and every family. And most families have mobile phones in the hands of all the members. Earlier there used to be landline phones in families and it was easy to remember or store their numbers. Now with the increase in the number of mobile phones, it has become very difficult to store or remember those numbers.

Just yesterday when I wanted to call a relative of mine, I had to scratch my brain while going through the Phonebook, regarding which is whose number. All the 7 members in the family had personal cellphones.

If this condition continues for a few more years, it would just be impossible to keep the mobile numbers even in the phonebook. The phonebook seems to be shrinking day by day with the numbers ever increasing.

So, I think in the future, there would no more be mobile numbers. Rather, there would be names, but oh! there are many persons with same names. What can be done?

Here comes to paths that can be taken. The first is similar to what China is planning. Actually Chinese government has decided to remove double names completely from the society. It is planning that by 2010 or in the near future, there would be no double names in the society. All the names would be given by the Government. What the heck is this possible! The other way is somewhat what Skype has done. I mean people will be having their own ids, like e-mail ids, Skype or Yahoo ids.

It may even be like thinktechno@airtel.mobile or even thinktechno@bsnl.landline or anything such as these.

Whatever it might be, I am sure the future generations won’t be playing with numbers like what we are doing.
