The most famous IM Gaim is now renamed to ‘Pidgin’. It is named Pidgin as it says a simplified form of speech that is usually a mixture of two or more languages, is used for communication between groups speaking different languages. They decided to change the name after immense pressure from AOL. It was originally called ‘GTK+AOL Instant Messenger’, but some complaints from AOL they called it Gaim.
Then AOL named their IM as AIM for few years, but then they again put pressure on the Gaim developers with support from Lawyers in Dec 2005. After such a long time the developers settled the issue with AOL and changed the name to ‘Pidgin‘.
