Wikipedia On CD Version 0.5

Wikipedia announced a CD version of its knowledge pool, though only 2000 articles will be put in the CD but with higher quality articles edited by volunteers. Wikipedia now has over a 1.7 million articles, but the CD version will feature only 2000 articles of which geography, literature & few other topics are covered. The version of CD is Wikipedia 0.5 and may go ahead by releasing other versions in future. The Wikipedia version 0.5 CD is priced at $13.99 or can be downloaded from here (Download is free) and it is compatible with Windows (98 to Vista), Macintosh OS X (Intel) & Linux x86. what is wikipedia trying to do?? It confuses me..
out of 1.7 million articles, which are ever on the increase, only 2000 articles.. dono,, what they are trying to do.. may be they are trying to test something, but i ask,, why?? I don’t think, anyone is going to buy it for just 2000 articles.
They may be right on their part, as if they try to release a CD or even DVD or their whole database, it would form somewhat a large series of DVDs or even BluRay discs =))
You can’t fit all those articles in one CD, also it is said that the articles will be edited by some volunteers who include high quality of media (i guess) so 700MB is not enough.
And yes u r right, i think they are testing as of now. If it is a success then hope for DVD, Blu-ray or HD DVD.
I’m also waiting for the DVD. I know you can download the whole wikipedia but that’s so big!
Thank you for great post!
