Soon after Intels announcement of its workforce cut, AMD announced a cut of 430 Jobs,which is around 2.6% of total workforce. Intel had recently announced that it will cut 1,000 employees at a plant where some employees worked on 200mm silicon wafers.

AMD has suffered a huge loss in the Q1 earnings. The company posted a $611 million loss. According to Ruiz, AMD is capable of eliminating more than 800 employees which is about 5% of total AMDs workforce.

AMD seems to competing with Intel in every aspect, last time when Intel slashed its prices on the Core 2 Duo, AMD also did the same with its AM2 processors. AMD seems to beleive that its Barcelona which is the new processor will prove to be better than Intels processors as it has it has 4cores on a single die.
