Nokia And Motorola Warn Of Dangerous Fake Batteries Made In China
Recently Nokia and Motorola said that the Chinese authorities in the southern province of Guangdong had discovered some duplicate cell phone batteries which had chances of exploding any minute in case they were connected to cell phones.
There was a case of explosion of a battery due to which Xiao Jinpeng, 22, was killed on June 19 when the battery exploded in a Motorola phone he had in his shirt pocket. His ribs splintered apart and pierced his heart.
According to estimates, the world’s biggest mobile market by users; China produces more than 10 million fake mobile phone batteries every year. The worst part is that around 15% are exported as well to various nations like, Asia, Africa, etc. China has more wireless subscribers than the combined populations of the U.S. and Japan, according to government data. An original battery will cost 7times the fake one.
Yang Yuxing, an analyst at researcher BDA China said, “Fake batteries are very widespread in poorer areas, where people use their handsets longer and have to replace their batteries more often”.
