OLED display has been buzzing since long time but never made it to TV sets, maybe few gadgets like MP3 players. But Sony Corp yesterday confirms an ultra-thin flat TV based on the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology will ship starting this December 1.

The debutant XEL-1 is a 11 inch display TV sports a “crazy contrast ratio” of 1,000,000:1, thats crazy. But most consumers will give it a pass this because of the paltry resolution of just 960 x 540 which is way short of true HD. Actually original prototype boast as resolution of 1024 x 600, maybe because of technical difficulties they dropped the idea.

Never mind this geeky stuffs consumers will always love the skinny the brightest and colorful. Other relatively damp features include an integrated digital TV tuner for Japan. Other features of the Sony OLED TV include USB, LAN interface, 1x HDMI port, headphone plug and S-Force sound.
The XEL-1 will ship this Dec in Japan for 200,000 yen (US$1,700; €1,200) , no confirmation on when its coming to US.
