Running multiple instances of Yahoo Messenger and Google talk

I’m a avid instant messaging fan, be it yahoo messenger or google talk. Also i have multiple ids of gmail and yahoo for either personal and professional reasons. But you can’t run all ids at once on a single computer. Either you use different browsers to run the web versions of gtalk or yahoo web messenger or signin and signout using different ids. Another solution is using meebo. But most of these tips doesn’t gives you complete control over the functionalities. Lets try some full proof solution.

As far as Gtalk is concerned a single line command code makes it possible to open multiple instances of gtalk in a single computer and login with different ids. Till now i have tried login in with 3 different ids and it works great. Now here is how it can be done.

Running multiple instances of Yahoo Messenger and Google talk

Create a shortcut of Gtalk on your desktop. Then right click on the shortcut hit “Properties” and in the “target” box add this line /nomutex in the end of the location just like one below

“J:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex

Another way on doing the same thing:

Click start button and hit run, type command in the run window, now go to the directory where google talk is installed, here enter googletalk/nomutex, now you will see gtalk will open, enter the same command to open multiple instances of gtalk.

Just like this but make sure you type in the correct directory.

Start –>Run–>command
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk>googletalk/nomutex

Now for those of you who want to have multiple instances of Yahoo! Messenger 8 running in the same time, all you need to do is download this simple registry file and install it.

Download and run the ym8multi.reg file from this ZIP archive

For uninstall, download and run the ym8multi_unist.reg file from this ZIP archive.

Another way around for the geeky fellows:

  • Go to START->RUN-> Type ‘regedit’ and press ENTER.
  • Then navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\Test’
  • Now in the right pane right click New->DOWRD Value. Name it as ‘Plural’.
  • Now Double click the the Plural DWORD you created & set the value to 1

The multiple one for Gtalk refuses to work for me. I have tried it before, may be because of some firewall client or so. Nowadays I use yahoo msger very rarely.

Dono whats wrong with your PC, maybe you haven’t excluded the new instance of gtalk on your firewall config. Which AV and firewall you are using.
