Have you ever encountered with a problem of Music folder icon turning from the default shiny icon into the generic yellow folder icon. Sometimes this occurs due to some softwares or malwares screwing up with a hidden file named desktop.ini thus corrupting it. But here is a workaround that fixes this issue up.

Check the screenshot below… looks familiar I guess!
How to Fix for Special Folders changing to Default Folder Icon in Windows Vista?

The visibility of the icons on the folders are controlled by desktop.ini file which is hidden inside each folder. All you need to do is modify the settings and save the file. What I’ll do here is just reset the desktop.ini to the default values that I’ve listed here.

Now to open the desktop.ini file of the music folder just paste this command into the start menu search or run box.

notepad %USERPROFILE%\music\desktop.ini

Now if you wanted to open the desktop.ini file in the pictures folder instead, change “music” to “pictures” in the command

notepad %USERPROFILE%\pictures\desktop.ini

You’ll probably won’t see the exact same version as below so you need to change them.

Now select and delete the entire values and rewrite the values as showing above. Or you could just change the values that have changed. After editing desktop.ini makes sure you either logout or restart to see the desired changes.

Below are the other values for the other folders.

By now your special folders should be back to the original state. If you get stuck somehow feel free to ask your questions.

This didn’t work for me, however, if I changed the Location of the music folder to somewhere random and chose not to transfer all the files, and then changed it back again, it seemed to restore the icon for me :)

If the above didn’t work, try deleting the folder, then undo the delete. It might be the fastest imo. Cheers!
