Long since Gphone rumors have been flowing through our ears we have been closing following it. People actually expected Google to launch something as cool and revolutionary as the iPhone. But Google had other plans. Now that we know Google announced a Linux based mobile operating system called Android, which will be available freely under mobile open source license to developers. They even have partnered with 34 telecoms and mobile phone, solutions manufacturers like Sprint, HTC, LG, T-Mobile, Motorola, Nvidia, and eBay. Expect cool new apps developed for Android by the latter half of 2008.

Making the operating system opensource and free gives a good chance that we might even see a substantial drop in phone prices.

Hats of to Google on again contributing a lot to the open source community. Besides this I’m sure other mobile OS manufactures might be waken up and shaken by Google’s moves. Sure we needs some changes, I’m getting bored with the Symbian’s and the Windows mobiles.
