If you haven’t forgotten way back in January, Yahoo announced they were developing Yahoo Messenger for Vista but since then no signs of either any beta or atleast something. The introduction of Yahoo Messenger 9 made it more obvious that YM for Vista might become a vaporware. Fortunately Yahoo has responded with a download preview after nearly a year of silence.

At first sight you would love the round edges. The Yahoo! Messenger for Vista utilizes new Aero features in Windows Vista. When you first login into it you’ll see the slick new look…. you can customize the color of the screen alongside the size of your friends icon on the buddy list.

You can even drag people to the Vista Sidebar so you could be constantly be in touch with them without opening another window, or even start a conversation by click the icons(in a regular conversation window)

Hey when you chat in Yahoo you ought to have emoticons, this version is no exception with lots of bouncing and animated smiley faces. Girls will really love these.

When you receive a message, they animate for a few seconds before going back to normal size

At the bottom right there is a icon, after clicking an animated “dialog” pops up just like that which lets you choose from the colors available, includes a pattern that looks like a grass.

You can use your picture, or the new Yahoo Avaters which require you to go to the Yahoo Avaters website and customize there.

The preference menu is a little hard to find for the first timers….it’s right between the Feedback button and the minimize button. You’ll notice the keyboard shortcuts associated with few of the options.

But don’t expect it to be like the final release…. its still a beta besides the Yahoo Messenger Blog says that not all features of standard Yahoo Messenger is available on this version.

Hey we just need to wait for a while before we see almost all features being added in this version. For the few hours i have tested it nothing like random crashes or bugs came out. I’ll keep you posted if any kind of bugs pops out.
