Nikon D60! D40x Refresh with Few New Tricks

January 29th, 2008

Nikon brings in another D40 refresh into the already cramped consumer-level DSLR market. With likes of Canon, Sony, Samsung etc bringing out models after models in the space weeks… the question pops up do we need more of this? But hey i’m a geek…… so lets move down to the specs.

Nikon D60

The Nikon so so official D60 enters the segment, with the same 10.2 megapixel image processor, 2.5-inch LCD, SDHC, vibration sensor cleaning, even a compact body which is much smaller then the D40x. Nikon thinks that they might be able to ship this by the end of either Febuary or March, but no word on the price. They also mention that the D60 will be packaged with the 3x zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens.

How to Restart Windows Without Restarting Your PC

January 27th, 2008

To me restarting my PC is one of the most annoying thing that I come across daily. Besides Vista takes up around one to two minutes to boot up sometimes. Even Windows XP slowly crawls at around a minute to load. Most of the time this happens due to myself frequently installing things that i shouldn’t and end up trashing the PC which results in a restart. Ofcourse there is a trick involving tricking the PC do a “warm reboot,” rather than a “cold boot.” The trick involves holding down the SHIFT key when invoking the restart.

How to reduce Firefox memory usage to 300kb

January 26th, 2008

As you would know Firefox is the worst offender when it comes to RAM consumption. Previously I should you some memory optimizing techniques to reduce the memory usage in Firefox, but still it doesn’t significantly reduce the memory usage.

Firefox Ultimate Optimizer is a tiny yet a god’s sent program that reduces Firefox memory usage. You’d be surprise to see the memory usage coming down to around 200 to 300 kilobytes…. What the f#$% 300 kb ? Yes this ain’t fake, it really reduces the memory usage to less then 300kb. Even with five to ten tabs and many extensions running memory usage didn’t went up from say 2mb. I’m just really surprised by this app. In one word “marvelous”.

Enable More Simultaneous Downloads in Internet Explorer

January 22nd, 2008

Most of us are accustomed to using Internet Explorer and i’m sure you’d probably fed up of the download restrictions of only 2 files from the same website. The reason of-course is the lame HTTP 1.1 spec that says only two connections may be allowed at a time so your browser just have to wait for the previous downloads to complete.

With a simple registry hack you can supercharge IE to download more then 2 files.

Manual Registry Hack

Open regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then browse down to the following key:
