Enable More Simultaneous Downloads in Internet Explorer

Most of us are accustomed to using Internet Explorer and i’m sure you’d probably fed up of the download restrictions of only 2 files from the same website. The reason of-course is the lame HTTP 1.1 spec that says only two connections may be allowed at a time so your browser just have to wait for the previous downloads to complete.

With a simple registry hack you can supercharge IE to download more then 2 files.

Manual Registry Hack

Open regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then browse down to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Enable More Simultaneous Downloads in Internet Explorer

On the right hand side, you’ll want to create two new 32-bit DWORD values:

  • MaxConnectionsPerServer – sets the limit for HTTP 1.1 servers, which is normally supposed to be 2
  • MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server – sets the limit for HTTP 1.0 servers, which is normally supposed to be 4

But make sure you don’t over do it, you might experience slowness and possibly would get blocked from some servers for using too many connections.

Nice trick, but it’s really better to use any free download manager like Download Master or others

Great info – I have to disagree with Vovan. A download manager is ok, but it’s also a lot of extra hassle. With this quick hack, people will be able to save a lot of time, in my opinion.

How many files maximum can be download by using this trick? Is it unlimited? However, this tip is very useful, because sometimes when I download a lot of files in a website, I have to check and recheck every time to see whether the download progress have been complete.
