Protect Windows From USB Autorun.inf Virus With USB Firewall

Recently i came across some crappy virus that infects all executable files in my flash drive, then creates a hidden autorun.inf file at the root of the pendrive. Each time I hook the USB drive to my friends PC thus getting infected.

Its fairly easy to stop Windows from executing instructions found in autorun.inf using registry tricks. But seriously many people do love the autorun feature.

Well we can still let Windows continue processing autorun.inf file for CD or DVD and also protect the computer from USB flash drive autorun.inf using a USB firewall. Here is a USB firewall software that blocks unwanted stuffs from your USB drive.

Protect Windows From USB Autorun.inf Virus With USB Firewall

Net Studio USB FireWall is a very smart application that protects your USB drive from all malicious programs which try to launch itself using autorun.inf through opening the drive from Windows Explorer. It will inform and warn you if such program exist in your USB storage.

While inserting your USB drive if you get a warning, you can click on the HOW AUTORUN.INF button to checkout the instructions in the autorun.inf file. If you see any malicious code or never have put up a autorun.inf file , simply click the DELETE button from USB FireWall and it will clean it for you. This tool only monitors the USB device and ignores CD or DVD drives so a expert hacker can easily get over this firewall and infect or steal sensitive data. Still it gives basic protect from those crappy viruses.

Whats your take on this tool?

We almost got killed at work with a traveling virus that was infecting comptuers via USB drives, which we use all the time. Couldn’t figure out what was causing the problem until we stuck the drive in a Mac… Sometimes, I really enjoy being a Mac user and not having to deal with silly autorun files destroying my computer.

This is really useful utility. With usb drives getting plugged into so many computers, it’s very difficult to protect it from viruses.

USb firewall can protect it to some extent. Thanks for sharing.
