Three versions of the Playstation 2 have come and gone. Now for the fourth. Sony Computer Entertaintment have announced that they will be releasing the new version of the Playstation 2 in India and Europe by Diwali. Also, Sony plans to introduce the Playstation network by the end of the year.

The improved version will have no external AC adapters as it will be built-in. Sony also plans to launch the Playstation 3 network in India by the end of the year. SCE country manager, Atindriya Bose quoted that, “The playstation network is ready for India. It is only the integration of the payment gateway that needs to be done.” Playstation 3 has not been a major hit in India unlike the Playstation 2. The price of the new improved PS2 will remain the same (Rs 6990). No idea what Sony is upto, but I would have rather preferred a price cut on the Playstation 3 or the PSP.
