How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Windows)
Finally good news for iPhone 2G guys, iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of Redsnow which will jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 2G and also the iPod Touch. Its a very basic yet powerful if compared to PwnageTool.
Just follow this simple instructions and you have an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone in no time.
Download the following files before you proceed.
- RedSn0w
- BL 3.9
- BL 4.6
- 3.0.0 (2G): iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
Make a new folder named Pwnage or any other name you like then place all these files there. Now extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.
1. First step is to connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes, make sure you have iTunes 8.2 or else update will fail.
2. Now select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left and hold down SHIFT and click the Restore button.
3. Now browse to your Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to start the restore process.
4. Once updating of the iPhone is finished, you may proceed to launch redsnw0w.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.
5. Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button.
6. Now select the same firmware ipsw in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open
7. Make sure Cydia and Unlock is selected and click the Next button.
8. Now in the next page select the location of both the bootloader files. Click the Next button to continue.
9. Now make sure your iPhone is switched off and plugged into your computer.
10. Next up Redsnow will guide you to through the DFU process. Do exactly as the guide says and your iPhone should be in DFU mode.
11. Your iPhone will now reboot after the DFU process.
12. RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.
13 . Once its completed you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button.
After your iPhone reboots it will start the BootNeuter then your iPhone will be unlocked and jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard. Enjoy!!

I have some questions that will help me throught the proces of jail bracking and unlocking
i have an iphone 2g with 2.2.1 frimware jailbracked,so i can use the sim card i want (not at&t),if i upgrate to 3.0 and than jailbracke throught RedSn0w will be able to use any sim i want???
are known issues for RedSn0w like cydian dont work ,or wifi dont work or things like that?
if i upgrate to 3.0 all my data.like applications ,fotos,sms,fotos,emails,will be deleted?

Hi Andi,
Yes your SIM card will work butmake sur you tick the option ‘UNLOCK’ in redsnOw.
And as far aas issues are concerned I didn’t experience any probs. The OS3.0 looks very stable.
Yes, all your data will get erased, its like formating your pc.

Hi – Im having issues in getting 2nd gen iPhone into DFU after following your steps.. I am competnet with putting device into DFU (ie power & home) but its not working for me now… Any ideas ?

Just do as the application says… first hold the power button for 10secs, then keep the power button pressed while pressing the Home button for 10sec ……….. then release the power button without removing your hands from the home button for 30 secs……. you should be in DFU mode!!

Might be problem with your battery…. try reducing the brightness levels and other batter hungry features….. if you use continuously wifi edge battery would hardly last 3 to 4hrs

Thanks – Been trying that for the last few days.. but my problem is that when the phone starts I can hear my PC not recognising it the, instead of the normal USB connection sound I now hear a noise similar to 3 dull beeps (i.e its not recognising it). Only way to get the phone back is disconnect, hold power & home for about 15 secs and it does a reboot then im back to the recovery screen again..
I had a jailbroken/unlocked 2G iphone running 3.0 software but when I tried to update to the new 3.0.1 due to the security flaws, it went through the download process but finished saying my sim wasn’t recognised!
Accordingly I can’t now even open itunes to use any pwnage or downloaded restore or BL files. The iphone is still unlocked as I tried a couple of different pre-paid sim cards.
What can I do?
hey dude listen i thank you for what you put up here but when i download The i phone restore i get the file but when i try to extract the files it just extract some and it does not give me the program like you have it in your screen…

I used redsnow n unlocked n jailbroken my iphone 2g 1.1.2 into version 3.0 n it worked. Thanks for that. But now i am having problem with my sms. When the message will come if i wont see the message as soon as it comes, it doesnt hold in my inbox. There is no message coming in inbox. Please help. A’m doing something wrong?
Hey….i have a iphone 2G which is on a 3.0 I had it upgraded to 3.1 but then later downgraded it to 3.0 using the .ipsw file for 3.0 I am trying to unlock this phone……can i use the latest iTunes 9.0.1 or i have to use iTune 8.2 ??
