YouTube is one great place to broadcast your videos. One advantage with Youtube is the fact that it has reach over to all the people from all around the world. So adding subtitles to your videos will be an added advantage. Here’s how you do it with CaptionTube.

Google offers you the option of adding captions using CaptionTube or add speech recognition technology using the same.

First, navigate to CaptionTube. You will be taken to a website that looks something like the above image. Its as simple as A-B-C-D.

Sign in with your Google Account and then import videos. Assuming you have a personal video, lets click Personal video.  You can also import public videos by clicking Specific video.

Once your video is imported, click Edit button next to your video. You should be able to see a caption edit screen for now.

Next, click the Add caption button and type your choice of text. Pick your start time and your caption life time in seconds. Click Save. You should now be able to see the caption at that particular time. Once you have added all the captions, click Publish.

Click Download to Your Computer and a textfile will start downloading containing the captions you have added. This is useful in case you are going to use it regularly. To add the caption to the video, goto your account and the youtube video page and click Caption option. Click Add New Caption and browse and select the file you downloaded from CaptionTube. Check the Caption File option and click Upload file.

Recently in late 2009, Google introduced Caption by Voice Recognition. Google listens to your voice and reads the transcript simultaneously and then the captions are generated automatically.

Create a textfile with the transcript  of the words spoken in the video. Save the file. After you are done, click the Caption button in your Youtube MyVideos Page. Click Add New Captions and Select the file you saved and check the Transcript file and hit upload. This might take some time as Youtube will read your file.
