There are a few people who either don’t have time to use the space on the iPhone to the max and there are few who just don’t have any use for the iPhone except for a few apps and call purposes. Well you can always use it like its an USB Flash Drive with iPhone Explorer.

The iPhone Dev team has finally released the PwnageTool 3.1.5 for the Mac which is easily the best tool to Jailbreak iPhone with OS 3.1.3 for you.

NOTE: This is for the Mac users only. If you use the blacksn0w unlock at baseband 05.11.07 you need to stay at 3.1.2. iPhone 3GS users not having SHSH Hashes must stay away from iPhone 3.1.3 firmware.

Here’s what you need to Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3:

♦ Download iTunes 9.0.3

♦ Download Original iPhone 3.1.3 Firmware

♦ Download PwnageTool  3.1.5

Lets get this thing done then.

1. After downloading PwnageTool 3.1.5, execute it and select your device.

2. PwnageTool 3.1.5 should display the firmware you use for your iPhone/iPod Touch.

3. When you are prompted with the following, Click NO:

Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?

4. PwnageTool 3.1.5 creates the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which is to be jailbroken.

5. Once custom ipws file is created you need to restore iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1.3 created using PwnageTool 3.1.5.

6. Click the Phone icon on the sidebar and now press and hold Alt key and click on Restore button in iTunes and then release Alt button.

7. Select the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware IPSW when prompted.

8. Your iPhone 3.1.3 should be restored by now.

9. Once installation is done your iPhone will restart automatically. Thats it! Your phone is now jailbroken!

Lets get down to business.

1. Update thee iPhone/iPod Touch to the 3.1.3 Firmware via iTunes.

2. Navigate to this on your system:

C:\Users\YOURWINDOWSUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates for the iPhone.

C:\Users\{your windows user name}\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates for the iPod Touch.

Now copy the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW file to your desktop.

3. Now open Redsnow 0.9.4 and select the iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware.

4. Next check both Install Cydia and Already Pwned options.

5. Turn off your iPhone/iPod Touch and then connect it to your PC. After that click the Next button.

6. Redsnow should start patching the firmware now. Hold both the Home and Power button until an Help message appears on your iPhone/iPod Touch.

7. Thats it for now. Your Redsnow will finish the process. Just wait for the Done message and you are really done.

I have never seen an iPhone be able to synchronize with Linux and this one takes the cake. Our friend at gHacks has finally figured out a way to sync your iPhone/iTouch with Linux. But only music for now.

The sync was performed on a Ubuntu 9.10 desktop Box, so I suggest you rather adjust according to that. Lets get started.

1. Add a repository to your apt resources by entering the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmcenery/ppa

2. Once its updated, give in the following command:

sudo apt-get install gvfs gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-fuse libgvfscommon0 ifuse libgpod-dev libgpod-common libiphone-utils libiphone0 python-iphone libplist++1 libplist-utils python-plist libusb-1.0-0 libusb-1.0-0-dev libusbmuxd1 usbmuxd

3. That process might take some time. Next, edit the fuse.conf file. First open etc/gvfs.conf. Change the #user_allow_other to user_allow_other and save the file.

4. Now add the user to the fuse group. Navigate to the User and Group Entry in Administration menu under the System menu. Click the Key button to get the tools for the administrative purposes. Click Manage groups and find fuse group. Double click it. Check the user you want to include and then close all the windows.

5. Log out of your desktop and login back again. Plug in your iPhone. Two devices will be recognized i.e a) camera b) phone. If this happens, you are nearly done.

6. Installing Gtkpod: Enter the following command.

sudo apt-get install gtkpod

7. Next, in the Applications menu, you will find the Gtkpod in the Sound & Video sub menu. Execute the app.

8. Configuring Gtkpod: Click the Edit menu. You will now be able to see a Repository/iPod Option.

9. Find out where the device is mounted. The mount point will be in ~/.gvfs/ and will be under the name of your device. Next, open a terminal and change it to that directory to find its name. Here, in the above picture, it’s ~/.gvfs/Jack Wallen. Enter the name in the iPod Mountpoint config section.

10. Next select your iPhone model from the drop down menu. Double check what you have selected. Click Add. Close the previous window by clicking OK.

11. Back to Gtkpod. Click the Load iPod button and your iPhone should now be displayed. Now add music flawlessly and be sure to click Save Changes.

This is how it works: Scroll in any direction with a finger, swipe if you want to navigate pages, click and double click actions are the same as a standard mouse.

And trust me the Magic mouse chip inside is one intelligent thing. It can even tell when you just rest your palm on the mouse. So there is no chance of confusion in your finger gestures.

The Apple Magic Mouse is backed by a Laser technology which means its really really sensitive. Power management is really good. It automatically detects if its inactive for a long time. You can also change the mouse settings (finger gestures) in the mouse preference panel.

Now all I want to know is how the hell do you play games with this? Just asking.

I don’t know what to say. I got mixed feelings for this one. Upto this day I have been using Windows Media Player for its less usage of resources but iTunes 9 is making me feel a bit uncomfortable. Its as though like the time has come for a change and it is the change.

Yes, iTunes 9 released at the Apple Rock and Roll event at Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco. And this time Apple has really listened to the users and thats what has made me download this today. I have to admit the areas of improvement like:

Apple has admitted to the fact that their baby iPhone 3GS suffers from Overheating sometimes. Not much has been done about it except little precautions published all over the net and very simple too. Mac Only. Jailbreaking the iPhone 3G gives you so much super powers. On a serious note, well it allows you to install applications and add custom boot logos. Make sure you have iTunes 8.2 installed and Mac OS X 10.5.7.

1. Download PwnageTool 3.0
Download the iPhone firmware (3.0, 3G)
2. Create a New Folder on your desktop and rename it as Pwnage. The above downloaded files should be kept in this folder.

3. Double click PwnageTool 3.0 and drag the PwnageTool.app to the Pwnage folder you created.

4. Now launch the PwnageTool application. Click OK when the warning pops up.

5. Select the ‘Expert Mode’ at top of the menu bar.

6. Select iPhone 3G. Click the arrow button on the bottom right.

7. In ‘Browse for IPSW’ dialog box, it will automatically find the IPSW file or you can click the ‘Browse for IPSW’, select the browse for IPSW button and choose your IPSW button.

Select the ipsw file and click the arrow button to continue.

8. In the next dialog box, click ‘General’ button and click the arrow button.

9. Pay attention, Select Activate the Phone only if your phone has NOT BEEN activated by a legitimate carrier. Also check Disable Partition wipe out. Increase the root partition to atleast 695 MB. Click the arrow button to go to the next step.

10. The Bootneuter Settings will all be greyed. Click the blue arrow to continue.

11. Cydia allows you to install custom packages.

Select the ‘Download Packages’ tab. Click Refresh. Select the packages you want to download and add it to the ‘Select Packages’ tab.

Check the packages you added and click the blue arrow to continue.

12. In the Custom Packages Settings, leave the settings as it is and click the blue arrow button to continue.

13. In the Custom Logos Settings menu, you can add your own boot logos. Remember, it should 320×480 size and the format should be a PNG file with RGB or grayscale format. After that, select the blue arrow to continue.

14. In the next menu, click the ‘Build’ button and click the blue arrow. Let the Pwnage begin.

15. Save the custom ipsw file to the Pwnage folder you created.

16. The IPSW is being built now. This process might take upto 10 minutes.

17. Enter your administrator password when asked. Then click OK.

18. When asked whether your iPhone has been Pwned before, if you are unsure click No. It only thoroughly restores the phone.

19. When asked to turn off your iPhone, check whether it is CONNECTED to the USB port and then turn it off.

20. Hold the Home Button And Simultaneoulsy press the power button for 10 seconds. Then release the Power button and hold the Home button for further 10 seconds to enter in to the DFU.

If you fail, it will display a message. Click yes and unplug the iPhone from the usb port. Turn the phone off and again turn it back on. Plug the iPhone back to the usb port and repeat from the start of this step.

21. Now, iPhone will display a message how it entered successfully entered the DFU port. An iTunes Dialog box will also pop up. Click OK.

22. In iTunes 8.2, hold down the ‘Alt’ key and click Restore.

23. This process will take upto 10 minutes.

24. Once the restore process is over, you will now able to see an Cydia on your iPhone Springboard.
