Facebook is the largest social networking site on the web and I pretty much stay on it all day. Ignoring the warnings, I love Facebook so much that I have also written many articles to dig out some secret stuff and also tips. Let me show how you add captions to photos automatically.

Why add captions? Well, it helps the viewer understand what the uploader was thinking/doing/undergoing at that time. Adding captions can be a tiresome job especially if you are a lazy bum. Again ignoring your arguments, there are three ways in which you can put captions automatically to your Facebook photo.

1. Via Email

You can upload photos to Facebook via Email and the subject line becomes your caption. Remember that if you have uploaded more than one photo, the subject line becomes the caption for all those photos.

First, goto Facebook Mobile to find out the email address to which you have to send your photos/status/updates to. This email address is private and don’t give it to anybody.

Next, compose your mail and add your caption in the subject line. Now check Facebook to see your work!

2. Desktop Apps

You can also use desktop applications to add captions before uploading. Yes, Multiple captions for multiple photos are supported. Bloom is one such application which does just that. You can drag and drop photos and caption each and every one of them separately or just caption them by selecting them all.

3. Picasa

Google’s Picasa is another great application when it comes to picture management. Picasa has a plugin called Picasa Uploader that lets you upload photos directly to Facebook from Picasa. It has also has different customizable options for your photos. Similar to Bloom, you can add photo captions one by one or at a single go.

Google Chrome’s new tab or window option is pretty lame as it doesn’t lets you set your own favorite websites as thumbnails, instead the most popular websites that you have visited are listed. To an extent the default speed dial feels ok. But it would be so productive and useful to set your own favorite websites on speed dial and be able to easily access them.

Speed Dial for Google Chrome is one extension that lets you set your own pages instead of the randomized bluff Chrome sets it for you. It lets you setup to 6 rows and 8 columns of your favorite websites. It even lets you add your own background. You can also enable or disable the option of displaying the search box, Bookmarks bar, recently closed tabs, page title and the options button. Speed Dial pretty bare-bone atleast for now but as the extension becomes popular, we will see some more good features added. One or two features we would love to see in the upcoming builds is the ability to set your own pictures as background and to be able to rename the thumbnails to my own preferences.

Speed Dial

When it comes to CD or DVD burning, it has always been Nero. No matter what you say about it, Nero has delivered what it claims unlike some others. But what happens when you want something unsophisticated? I piled up some of the others and here are the ones that I think are the next best alternatives.

1. ImgBurn

ImgBurn is like the little brother of Nero. It has a wide range of options like Nero minus the visual appeals. It currently supports BIN, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, ISO, MDS, NRG and PDI formats. It supports all the Windows OSs.

2. CDBurner XP

CDBurner XP is one software that has been around for a while. It not only burns standard CDs and DVDs but you can also burn HD-DVDs  and Blu Ray Discs. It can also burn ISO images for you. It supports Windows 2000 and higher Operating systems.

3. Express Burn

This a free burn software that lets you record and create data/audio CDs. Express Burn also claims to be the fastest burner in the world. I am not sure about that, but what I am sure about  is the fact that you can drag and drop files in this software.

4. Ultimate CD/DVD Burner

Like the name says, its ultimate in burning discs regarding the number of formats it supports. It supports both USB 2.0 and FireWire writers. It also lets you create photo CD albums.

5. StarBurn

Star Burn is also a great software when it comes to burning. It supports all kinds of storage discs including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, BD-R/RE, HD-DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM. You can also split DVD Videos into discs if your videos are too big.

Its tough to hide files in your computer especially if you have some intelligent users using the same system. Most of the times you either try hiding the file but its of no avail since you can’t guarantee it’s safety. Or you try softwares which also can be detected by simply looking around. So how do you do it? This neat trick is unusual but I think its ten times better than the ones you have tried.

Advantage of this method is that you can store a lot of files inside a single JPEG file. Files of MP3, TXT, AVI can be easily hidden inside a JPEG file. This method is very useful for people who want nothing to do with encryption, softwares etc.

You will need a zip archive application like WinZip or WinRAR. Lets start then:

1. Create a Folder called Test on your hard drive. Place all the files you are going to hide in the folder and also the particular JPEG file.

2. Select all the files you want to hide and right click on one of them. Now select to compress them as a ZIP or a RAR archive and name it Hidden. Remember NOT to select the JPEG file.

3. You should be able to see a compressed archive now.

4. Now goto Start > Run. Type CMD in the box and hit Enter.

5. Type CD \ to get to the root directory. Next type CD Test

6. Follow carefully now. Type the following and hit Enter.

copy /b YOURIMAGENAME.JPG + Hidden.rar(or)zip YOURIMAGENAMEAGAIN.jpg

Thats it! As simple as that. You can open these files by renaming the file extension to RAR(or)ZIP and open it with a respective application. You can also open it up by right clicking the file and clicking Open Wiht > WinRAR (or) WinZip.

This is one nifty trick if you don’t want to share your files with other people.

While I first joined Twitter, it felt like any other website. You know, you get to know people online with sweet short 140 character long views/expressions/news/etc. But as time passed, so did my definition. Twitter is the best social networking site along with knowing people more personally.

1. Be Clear And Concise – Don’t get exaggerated at whatever you are typing unless it’s a known person or someone who approves of your exaggeration. Else, just be short and crisp in whatever you are going to say.

2. Warm And Friendly – Be humble and reply to people politely. Don’t make it obvious that you want them to acknowledge your existence. No point when people actually don’t want to. And reply only if you have to.

3. Meaningful Tweets – Twitter can be used to describe your everysecond activities. But trust me, most people don’t care. Instead, provide something useful like news, facts or one liners which might be of use to others.

4. Humor – Humor is one other way to get more followers. Some hilarious 140 characters and you are all set to become the twitter comedian.

5. Do not be selfish – Let go off your ego atleast online. Retweet good stuff when those you are following give one. Be generous, who knows they might recommend you to others if people want to get their info/tweet spread.

6. Show People That You Are Human Too – No point in tweeting just links and blog posts. Tweet something to your life or in general to the community at regular intervals. You don’t want to act like you haven’t got a life.

7. Simple and Straight – Whatever you are trying to say, make it simple and don’t try to complicate it. Using advanced English words is also a turn off. Use BRB, ASAP etc. more often to make your tweet short or to include more words.

Google Chrome is one browser that I think was an epic success venture from Google unlike the Buzz or the Wave. While I use only the Windows Operating system, I have occasionally stumbled on the Mac when I felt like it. Well, then why don’t we give trips on this awesome browser on the Mac OS? Well, here goes.

Google Chrome Tips & Tricks for the Mac:

Synchronizing Bookmarks With iPhone – Many people use Apple Safari because its the only way you can synchronize your iPhone to the browser. The Xmarks extension fortunately synchronizes your bookmarks in Safari and Chrome with the cloud. So any changes in the Chrome will automatically reflect on the Safari which in turn in the iPhone.

Don’t Get Lost in The Tabs – If your on your browser 24×7, there is a 90 percent chance that your browser is full of tabs and also you don’t want to close any of them. Well it gets really frustrating when you have to navigate to the particular tab immediately. Therefore, its better you manage your tabs with some excellant extensions like VerticaTabs.

Custom Search Engines – This is one of the best features of Google Chrome. Right click the Address bar in Google Chrome and click Edit Search Engines, you will notice that there already a number of Search Engines added. This is done automatically by Google Chrome. You can always access these search engines by using the keywords or double clicking on them and entering some keyword that will be easy to remember. So that you can access that search engine by typing the keyword first and then your inquiry.

Closing Stubborn Tabs – Google Chrome’s engine is such that each tab runs on a parallel resource engine. The built-in Task manager helps you get rid of this tabs. Navigate to View > Developer > Task Manager and select the tab that unresponsive. And then Click End Process.

Developer Version of Chrome – This is for the people who want to be a step ahead when it comes to receiving Goodies but with a little bit of risk involved. This will let you receive all the updates before hand but there is no guarantee there won’t be crashes. Get the Developer version here.

Sure being a Mac user is cool, many things about Mac OSX makes it very useful and productive, but a small yet frustrating inability to chat with Facebook contacts from with iChat sure makes us go mad. You can easily do the same using third party clients like Adium which already has multi client and Facebook chat support or you can just follow these simple instructions below and chat with your Facebook friends from iChat.

How to Chat with Facebook Contacts in iChat

Step 1

Start iChat,now open Preferences, and then head over to the Accounts tab.

Step 2

Now click the plus sign at the bottom of the window to add a new account.

Step 3

Now select Jabber Account from the Account Type drop-down menu.

Step 3

Enter youfacebookusername@chat.facebook.com in the Account Name field, enter your Facebook password in the Password field.

Step 4

Now click on the triangle next to Server Options to reveal those settings. Enter chat.facebook.com in the Server field, and 5222 in the Port field. Make sure SSL isn’t checked. Now click Done!

Step 5

Now sign-in and enjoy Facebook chat from your iChat without having to install those bloated software.

Well, I wouldn’t say ActiveX is one of the greatest concepts Microsoft has ever introduced but like every other software, it has its moments. Here’s how you fix Windows update errors with ActiveX.

Usually ActiveX can be easily filtered in any of your normal firewalls and other antivirus thingamajigs. And the most common one is the ActiveX filter that can be done easily on the open source router firmware DD-WRT.

We will disable the ActiveX filtering based on this router. If you are using some other contraption, please refer to its documents/manuals to disable the ActiveX filter.

Lets get started.

1. Find out your router’s IP address. Goto Run and type cmd.

2. Type ipconfig and then hit enter.

3. The IP address beside the Default Gateway is your IP address. Note it down.

4. Open your browser and paste the IP address in the address bar.

5. Login and click the security tab. Uncheck the Filter ActiveX option.

6. Click the Apply Settings option or similar option and then close your browser.

7. Try your Windows Update again. It should work.

This method should work even with your Internet Explorer 8 disabled.

Google Buzz is here and well unlike the Google Wave has received a mix response. Some users think it will overtake Facebook in terms of users over time. So while the battle there keeps up, let me give you some tips and tricks which might help you figure out what Google Buzz is all about.

Google Buzz Tips & Tricks

1. Editing Your Google Profile: If you have a GMail account then you most likely have a Google Profile too. Goto the Google Profile Page and start editing your profile. You can add your Social Network profiles and add other URLs. You can also edit your URL extensions like http://www.google.com/profiles/yourprofilename

2. Sharing Stuff: If you are using Google Reader then whatever you share or post there shows up in your Buzz stream. Its simple to share stuff, just click the Share button and it starts doing that.

You can also allow a particular set of people to whom you can share the stuff with. Click Google Reader > Click Shared Items > Click Sharing Settings > Select Shared Items Can Be Viewed By Protected (Shared With Selected Groups).

3. Connect Twitter And Buzz: You can share stuff on your Google buzz and at the same time share stuff at Twitter too. TwitterFeed is one such service that lets you share stuff on Twitter using Feed URLs. Just paste your Google Reader Feed URL in your TwitterFeed account and thats it!

FriendFeed is another similar service. All you need to do is synchronize your accounts.

4. Google Buzz Extensions: Surprising but only a day passed of its release, Google Buzz extensions were already being released.

Buzz It! is a Mozilla Firefox extension that allows you to share stuff by opening a Google Reader dialog box.

But a better extension is the Note in Reader bookmarklet that is available in the Shared Items in your Google Reader. Its a great and simple way to share stuff with nothing heavy on the resources side. Something similar to FriendFeed.

5. Using Shortcuts on Buzz: Using shortcuts is an effective way to use Buzz like you were a pro. Here are some of the most prominent ones which you might be needing: N – Next Buzz K – Previous Buzz R – Reply/Comment on post F – Forward Buzz post to others Z – Forward the Buzz post to others in a new Window. M – Mute the Buzz post.
