As you would know I’m the owner, webmaster and everything of www.thinktechno.com. Most of my free time goes to optimizing the website and other things. Optimizing in a sense I try to fix the problems associated with fastening, code cleaning, and checking the website with multiple website.

Problem is that almost all the versions of Firefox have no problems rendering my website, even opera does exceptionally well. But Internet explorer always gives me headaches. A minor stylesheet changes drops columns, sidebars, and do all sorts of crazy things. Add to that windows won’t allow installing multiple versions of IE.

I previously have show many tips to reduce the memory usage of Firefox. Even show a application that forces Firefox to use virtual memory and cpu to reduce physical memory usage. Most of them reduced the memory usage to a great extent, still i would love Firefox memory usage to around 90 to 120 MB. Below are few tweaks in the about:config that does some tough things.

Firefox maybe the best web browser out in the internet but it isn’t bulletproof when it comes to the memory leakage usage. More the windows, tabs, extension it sucks more memory. Fortunately there is a small fix that will minimize the memory leakage to some extend. Don’t bet it will fix it forever, still better to have something rather then a zero.

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.

Remove the Built-In Search Bar on IE 7

If you are already using Google or Yahoo Toolbar you probably won’t want to use the built-in search box in Internet Explorer 7. There’s a quick registry fix that you can do to enable / disable this.

Open up Notepad and copy the following and save it to something “IE7_NoSearchBar.reg”. Then merge it into the registry by double clicking it.
