As you would already know Twitter is one of most popular microblogging web application over the internet. ChromedBird is a twitter client for your Chrome browser. It hides itself inside a little birdie button until you check your stream or want to post an update. ChromedBird displays the last 5 tweets in your stream and allows you to post updates well that’s about it. If you post links your links are shortened using bit.ly . ChromeBird is a very early build so expect it to be buggy.

You can find the ChromedBird .crx over at ChromeExtensions. This extensions is only meant for the latest dev builds of Chrome 4.0+.

Youtube feels fairly restricted with it 1GB upload limit, but as of now Youtube will offer your with 2GB of space to upload your videos as well  as directly link to an high definition video.

To share a link to the HD version of your video, simply add “&hd=1″  to the end of the URL and will play in HD as soon as someone plays it. Besides that you could also embedded, simply click the customize button to the right of the embed box on the video page, some options should appear, click on “play in HD”. Now you embed code will play HD videos at (853×505) resolutions for maximum viewing pleasure.

The world’s number one social networking site, as the name goes is sure bound to have millions of photos. And if you are one of the Facebook freaks and love to look at the pics of your friends, this Firefox extension might come in handy.

Lets say, you and your friends had a blast at some amusement park or the other. And each one of them clicks pics and upload it on Facebook. If its a huge gang, then loads of photos will be uploaded. You could download these pics, say one by one or the whole album at a click by using FacePAD.

FacePAD is a Mozilla Firefox extension that allows users to download albums from Facebook  at one go. Its pretty simple to use. Just right click the image on the Facebook and click ‘Download with FacePAD’ to start downloading images.

I usually discover a new site everyday or atleast every week and then bookmark it. The problem is that there are too many now and I don’t want to miss out any of the latest happenings on any one of them. Enter Samfind.

Samfind segregates the websites on the basis of categories i.e you can categorize the websites you added. These categories are in turn added to the Mozilla Firefox toolbar which makes it easier for you to navigate to. The most visited website is shown first followed by others. 

Samfind also supports RSS. It gives you the power of reading the newsfeed without actually going to the website yourself.

I think I heard an ejaculation that ran as ‘wtf’. Its true, Oosah is offering a 1 Tera Byte of free online storage space. And thats not the border, it has the interface of the latest with support of the major social sites like Facebook, youtube, picassa and Flickr.

When its free, I somewhat always have the hunch that there is a scheme behind it. Here, there is no exception but they don’t really look like schemes to me unless if you were pirate. Oosah doesn’t allow users to upload video files exceeding 200 MB or image files exceeding 50 MB and MP3 files exceeding 9MB are also not allowed. 

On the whole I would advice Oosah for a typical media files freak. For example, I got tons of vintage movies and gigabytes of old and new music, its obvious that I should select Oosah for its support and huge space. 

Some of the main features are you can create folders with sub-folders, drag and drop files, upload files in any format etc. in fact, some features make it look like a virtual desktop. The ‘Create playlist’ for the media files and gallery for your selected images etc. make it look like any ordinary desktop. Password protect feature is also available.

Sharing is one of the main features Oosah can boast upon – Email, RSS, linking/embedding, SMS, podcasting, downloading-burning to CD/DVD and local high resolution photo printing. Oosah as of now hasn’t said anything about the type of content you can upload, but just to be on the safer side, google its privacy policy.

Google Chrome just released just 30 minutes back i guess( while i was writing). Actually I was holly shit when Google announced that they where making there own open source browse, considering Google has been supporting Firefox for quite a while now.

Google Chrome is based on the WebKit engine and by the initial 5 minutes with the browser, its pretty awesome considering it just a beta. Good thing is that the browser runs separate processes per TAB to ensure security and stability. This way if one of the tab crashes accidentally, it won’t influence your work in other tabs. While running multiple tabs each tab was consuming about 6 to 10mb depending on the website content, flashier websites tend to consume more ram.

And the built-in privacy mode like IE8 (InPrivate), called Incognito, can be bought up by pressing the shortcut, CTRL+SHIFT+N makes a sandbox tab, where you could checkout sites which requires cookies and other unwanted stuffs, without having to expose any personal credentials. Hope Google keeps updating there browsers with good features (last time i checked out, Gtalk doesn’t have conference calls).

Today’s instant messenging softwares are fighting each other for the most number of users. Among them is the clean looking Google Talk. A good competitor and with this trick it might prompt all the users of Mozilla Firefox to reconsider their other instant messenging services.

♦ Click Bookmarks on your Mozilla Firefox browser. Then point at Organize Bookmarks and select New Bookmark from the menu.

♦ Enter the following link in the location textbox and click Load this bookmark in the sidebar. Click Add.

For those of you who don’t know what Drop.io is, it is a service that allows sharing of documents and files. With its simple interface and image-scaled uploads, its become popular with heavy file sharers. Now the company has decided to offer drag & drop uploads on Mozilla Firefox that will make things easier and faster.

How do you do that?

Create a ‘drop’ area at drop.io. Select the file from your desktop or any webpage and drag it to an existing drop.io drop area. The file will get uploaded or if it is small, it will get converted for an easy one click access.

What if you are lazy on just creating a drop area? Simple, just drag and drop the file on the red dot of the status bar. This saves time but when I tested it, I had some trouble with huge files. Images are a tad easy when it comes to this method.

Anyway, any file that you drag & drop can be bookmarked. Drop.io also supports Linux & ubuntu. Drop.io also announced that they are working on drag & drop based on RSS and twitter feeds. Lets just wait and see how it is received.

As you would know I’m the owner, webmaster and everything of www.thinktechno.com. Most of my free time goes to optimizing the website and other things. Optimizing in a sense I try to fix the problems associated with fastening, code cleaning, and checking the website with multiple website.

Problem is that almost all the versions of Firefox have no problems rendering my website, even opera does exceptionally well. But Internet explorer always gives me headaches. A minor stylesheet changes drops columns, sidebars, and do all sorts of crazy things. Add to that windows won’t allow installing multiple versions of IE.

What if I can? Multiple IE is a great recent find. It allows me to run multiple versions of IE without any problems. I can now check the alignment issues or page rendering of my website with multiple versions.

Download the installer and start it. You’ll that the installer contains IE3 IE4.01 IE5 IE5.5 and IE6. IE7 is a miss but I’m sure most of windows XP users have upgraded to IE7. Currently this software is not supported on Vista.

After starting the program, you can decide on which version of IE to install. The older browsers can be called up from the start menu after set up. The installer contains IE3 IE4.01 IE5 IE5.5 and IE6. All you need is to have a system which has XP and IE7. Currently this software is not supported on Vista.

I previously have show many tips to reduce the memory usage of Firefox. Even show a application that forces Firefox to use virtual memory and cpu to reduce physical memory usage. Most of them reduced the memory usage to a great extent, still i would love Firefox memory usage to around 90 to 120 MB. Below are few tweaks in the about:config that does some tough things.

1. Reduce memory usage when minimize

Do you know Firefox keeps sucking memory each time you minimize your Firefox. This tip will reduce the memory usage when each time you minimize your Firefox.

1. Start up Firefox
2. Type in about:config in the address bar and hit Enter
3. Right click and choose New > Boolean
4. Type config.trim_on_minimize in the pop-up box and hit Enter
5. Select True and hit Enter.
6. Restart your Firefox

2. Fixed the cache capacity

Firefox caches each page so that when you go back to a website so it doesnt need to load the page elements again to redisplayed. By default, this setting was set to -1 which mean, Firefox use the cache memory depends on your RAM size. Reducing the value will minimize the memory usage.

1. Start up Firefox
2. Type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter
3. In the filter, enter this string browser.cache.memory.capacity
4. If you set to 0, Firefox will not cache any pages. If you want to customize to other value, read here.

Note: browser.cache.memory.enable must be True if you decide to change the integer.

3. Limit pages stored in memory

Each time Firefox visits a web it saves the page you visited in memory to let it quickly redisplay when you click Back and Forward button. A slight tweak to a string will remove this feature and should reduce the memory usage.

1. Start up Firefox
2. Type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter
3. In the filter, enter this string browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers
4. By default, it was set to -1 which mean, Firefox will automatically decide maximum pages to be stored in memory. Change the value to 0 will stop Firefox from store any pages in memory. If you want to use other value, read here for more info.

4. Less extension the merrier

Thou extensions are really helpful they are the prime reason Firefox to use more RAM. Few badly coded extensions can cause memory leak. Either uninstall or upgrade your extensions to the latest version may fix the problems.

I hope that the following tweaks reduce the memory usage to some extent,. I think you should start beta testing Firefox 3, it’s turning out to be the best Firefox browser up till now.
