After quite a delay Mozilla Firefox version 3.6 is officially available for download for free for Windows/Mac/Linux systems. With cool features like instant themes, out of date plugin notifier and promised faster rendering speeds Firefox 3.6 is looking like a winner. Apparently since we have tested out most of the test builds, the final version seems to be very stable at this point yet it still a tad slower then your ultra fast Chrome setup. Mozilla Firefox is one of the largest used browsers in the world. Adding to its ever increasing number is the fact that its the most stable and one of the fastest browsers in the world. Here’s how you can speed up your browser and notice the difference.

Here are some of the amazing tricks that I think will considerably increase your Mozilla Firefox speed (Each trick per point):

1. Open Mozilla Firefox and type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter. If you get a warranty warning, just click I’ll be careful, I promise! and move on. Now in the Filter bar just below the tabs, click the space and type  network.http.pipelining. Make sure the value is set to true in the page displayed. Hit Enter.

2. Next trick. Open the same page and type network.http.proxy.pipelining in the Filter bar. Set the Value to 8 and then hit enter.

3. Type network.dns.disableIPv6 and set the value to true. Hit Enter. This enables Mozilla to recover IPv6 DNS addresses.

4. Mozilla also has an option of displaying the page upto the point it has been downloaded. Type about:config in the address bar and hit enter. Now right click anywhere in the address bar and select New and then Integer. Type content.max.tokenizing.time and the click OK. Enter the value as 2250000 and click ok.

5. Usually, Mozilla apps wait for a little time before they start displaying the page. It is an effective way but sometimes you wished it would load faster. As done in the previous trick, right click anywhere in the about:config address area and click New > Integer. Enter nglayout.initialpaint.delay in the dialog box which has just popped up and then click OK. Enter 0 as the value and click OK. Thats it! Your done.

Now close and restart your Mozilla Firefox to experience the speed increase. Trust me, it should be noticeable even for a noob if he/she has followed the instructions closely. If you got anymore up your sleeve, let us know in the comments section.

NOTE: I’d suggest you backup your profile before you start messing with config.

After the first time I downloaded Mozilla Firefox I was so impressed by it that I started playing with it instead of playing Crysis. So how do I save this heavy profile of mine? Fortunately there are ways to backup your stuff without losing any of them.

Let’s get started:

1. Navigate to MozBackup and download the software.

2. After downloading the software, close your Firefox browser and then double click and install MozBackup.

3. Click the Next button in the dialog box that has just popped up.

4. Click I Agree button and then proceed.

5. Now specify the directory where MozBackup has to be installed and click Next.

6. Open the program by starting it from the desktop or goto the Start menu and open it.

7. Click Next in the Popup dialog box and then it detects the browsers on your computer.

8. Select Mozilla Firefox in our case or for that matter any browser.

9. Next select the profile to be saved and click Save to save the profile at the specified location.

10. You can password-protect the file if you want to by selecting Yes or just click no.

11. Check the options which you need a backup of (for example, Bookmarks, cookies and saved passwords) and then click Next.

12. Thats it! Click Finish after the process is done.

13. If you want to restore an already saved profile, just click Restore Profile in the 9th step to restore an already saved profile.

Almost every feature rich website nowadays have at-least a little bit of Adobe’s love or have Flash software. Its latest 10 beta release gets even better with GPU acceleration for H.264 video and multi-touch support and tones of bug fixes.
