Okay, I get it now. Google wants to be number 1 in everything and zey waant to roole zee verld! Sorry, got carried away. Anyway, Google Chrome which was released not more than a year ago has already moved on to version 4.

Although right now Google Chrome is way behind in the race of the greatest browsers, experts reckon Google Chrome will catch upto Internet Explorer and Opera in less than a year. The brand ‘Google’ does have the words ‘Attractive’ and ‘Awesome’ associated with it. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise.

This is what Program Manager for Google Chrome, Anthony Laforge has to say:

We’ve officially bumped Chromium to 4.0.x to reflect our code freeze point for 3.0. There is still a bit of work that needs to be done for 3.0 in terms of stability and fixes, and to that end we will be pulling changes into the 195 branch (what will become the stable release). Keep your eyes out for future updates on the beta channel.

The latest versions gettting released are under the name of 4.0.X. If you can’t understand what Anthony has to say, lets just say they are officially bored with 3.0 numbers and now have moved on to 4.0.x.

Now you can send large attachment files in gmail upto 25MB because Google has increased the attachment size from 20MB to 25MB. This is good news for the Gmail users, but if you have to send an email to your friend who is having another email account(with smaller attachment limit) other than gmail, then it is likely that the mail will not reach him and it will bounce back. So it is best for gmail users, as till now or better still you could invite your friend to using gmail.

Gmail users with the flash uploader will get an error pop-up if the file exceeds the 25MB size limit.

Google Mail is already one of the most feature rich web based email service and Google doesn’t cease to amaze us with yet another cool new upcoming feature.  AutoPilot for Gmail is a blessing for bloggers , as we are used to get tonnes of emails from PR companies which we normally reply to most of them but sometimes it really becomes a headache replying to every one of them.

But thanks to Gmail Autopilot,now we don’t need to read all of them or even respond everyone. Now here’s something which will interest you. You can send Free SMS from Gmail i.e from Google Talk in Gmail.

Visit the Gmail Labs Page, to activate this new feature and scroll down until you see the appropriate listing.

To send a message, just type a phone number into the search box at the top of the chat window on the left side of the Gmail interface, and hit ‘Send SMS’. Numbers can be associated with contact names so you don’t have to keep manually entering them. Recipients of these messages can respond by simply hitting ‘reply’ on their cell phones to send their own SMS message (Gmail ties a unique phone number with each of your contacts).

Now this new feature is currently tested only with U.S phones.

Not even two days have passed and developers are already posting their tips and tricks for the browser on the internet. The most popular of them all is the one about changing themes of the Google Chrome.

The Free Chrome Themes website offers just four themes for now, but additions will made in the future. According to some sources, the site is an official part of the Google Chrome campaign. Even though this prospect is exciting, it is a bit tedious for a typical net user.

To start, the default.dll file has to be replaced with the new theme file. Here is how you do it:

Vista Users: 

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes\

XP Users:

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes\

The C has to be replaced with the letter of your drive in which Windows is installed. UserName is the user name with which chrome was installed and the numbers you see is the current version of Google chrome.

Note: As usual, I advise you to backup your default.dll file in case if anything goes wrong. Nothing more. Enjoy!

Recently Google launched the new Google Sites wiki that lets you create and edit websites without learning HTML.

If you are a Google Apps admin, you can easily integrate the new Google Sites wiki service to your account. Just take a look at the steps below and you’ll be good to go building sites.

1. Open your Google Apps Dashboard and click the “Add More Services” link.

GTalk is an extremely simple instant messaging client. But simplicity is something you don’t need always, especially when it comes to your privacy. GoogleTalk doesn’t even has a privacy option to hide your status or maybe idle it, thats just plain disgusting I myself end up fighting with my friends, as they think I’m chatting with fellows and not working.

Beside that Gtalk will show you “idle” only if you do not use the computer for at least 10 minutes. Funny part is if a single click or button press and your status is green.

However this simple free utility called galwaysidle can manually set your Google Talk status as “idle” even when you have not stepped away from the computer.

gAlwaysIdle adds two new options to Google Talk, allowing you to change your status to be ‘always idle’ or ‘never idle’. When your status is set to ‘always idle’, you’ll appear idle to your Google Talk buddies, even if you’re sitting at your computer typing e-mails and sending IMs.

I think Google should either buy this application or integrate this tool to there IM. Until then I’m happy using gAlwaysIdle

Gmail has a really cool feature, Gmail’s custom ‘From:’ feature lets you send messages that display another address. As i also have to deal with day to day emails coming to my website email, its really cumbersome to email from my hosting email application(buggy as hell).

1. Log in to your Gmail account at mail.google.com.
2. Now head over to the settings and open the Accounts tab.
3. Under Send mail as, click Add another email address.
4. In the Name field, enter your full name. and in the Email address field, enter the email address you’d like to send from. Now click on Send Verification. Gmail will send a verification message to your other email address to confirm that you own it.

1. Now head over to your Compose.
2. Use the drop-down menu in the From field to select the address you’d like to use to send the message.
3. Compose and send!

Sure, it’s more of a tip than a hack, since it’s built into Gmail.

Nowadays we are accustomed to having different profiles or accounts for various services ranging from email, social networks, community websites. But you can only login to one account at a time for a specific service due to cookies.

Today I’m gono show you a Firefox plugin that lets you login to any number of accounts of the same service. CookiePie is a Firefox add-on that manages cookies on a per tab basis, letting you use multiple accounts from just a single browser.

However, the author’s site indicates that there are still a few bugs that needs to be mend (e.g. conflicts with Tab Mix Plus) but it still works out pretty good, especially for those of us who need multiple log-in sessions.

As you would know, due to security reasons Gmail prevents users from sending and receiving executable files (files with the extension “.exe”, “.dll”, “.ocx” or “.bat”). If you try to uploading these files, Gmail will send you an error message: “This is an executable file”. However you may try compressing the files into other formats such as “.zip”, “.tar”, “.tgz”, “.taz”, “.z” or “.gz”. But Gmail is smart enough to know there is an executable inside that compress file.

Now the question is how to send executable files with your Gmail account if you really need to do so? Here’s how its done.

First option is to rename your executable files from the “exe” extension to other formats such as “doc”, “jpeg”, etc. For instance, your file name is “something.exe”; just rename it to like”something.doc or something.jpeg”. Once your contact receives the file, he just need to change the extension back to the original file extension.

Another option is to compress your executable file by using Winrar. For some reason Gmail doesn’t scan files in RAR format. Maybe some special truce with winrar….but who knows.!..?
