Restart Windows from Task Manager! No hard resets
December 19th, 2007
You might have encounter Windows completely freezing not letting you even open the start menu to restart. Doing a hard reset isn’t good for your PC components especially the hard drive. Here’s how you could restart your PC without having to do severe damage to your PC.
You can bring up Task Manager using the following keys:
- Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and click on Task Manager
- Hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up Task Manager

Once the Task Manager pops up, you could either restart or shutdown a hung process from the process list, or you could click on Shutdown> Restart to restart the computer.
How to Hide Drives in Windows XP
December 15th, 2007
Ever wondered if its possible to hide a particular disk drive (disk partition) that houses your important documents that you don’t want to expose. Hell…yeah! you can hide them. Windows Xp has a simple utility that does just that.
- Go to Start > Run > Type “diskpart”
- after a command prompt window comes type in “list volume“.
- Now for example you wanna hide C, then type “select volume 2“
- Now type “remove letter C” (most cases it works instantly, but sometimes restart may be required)

Add the Command Prompt to the Windows Explorer Right-Click Menu
December 8th, 2007
Do you know that a hidden option allows using “Command prompt” when you right click on a directory via the menu rather then running it from RUN.
Here’s is a cool registry trick that gets its going. But make sure you backup your registry before embarking on it. I’ll show you how it’s done step by step. But you can always use the ready made reg file at the bottom.
Step-By-Step Method:
Type regedit.exe into the Start\Run dialog, and then navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
Now right click on “shell” and choose the New Key option:
Wonder why Microsoft is so evil… DreamScene is a pretty useless feature apart form the eye candy that comes with a motion desktop or video animated desktop wallpaper nothing extravagant. Now why should i dish out $40o odd for Windows Vista Ultimate just some eye candy.
No need to buy Windows Vista Ultimate here is a cool alternative to adding video to your desktop background without hogging system resources and memory. It will work in any Windows Vista version and Windows Xp. Here’s how it goes.
How to Defrag Multiple Hard Drives At Once In Windows Xp
November 5th, 2007
As you would know its a pain in the ass when it comes to defraging all hard drives at the same time in Windows XP, as the Disk Defragment utility in Windows Xp doesn’t have any option to defrag all the drives at once.
But a simple batch file trick can get over this problem and defragment all of the drives, one after the other.
The disk defrag utility in Windows XP can be called from the command line with the following syntax:
How to Get Vista Taskbar Thumbnail Previews in Windows XP?
November 5th, 2007
Not everyone likes to upgrade to a new OS every couple of years. Same thing is happening with people using Windows XP resisting the temptation of upgrading to Windows Vista. But still many of us who don’t want to upgrade to Vista would love to have few of the cool looking Aero features. One of the coolest and my favorite Vista features is the thumbnails previews of the windows that comes when you hover your mouse over the taskbar. Now with a tiny application you can get them in XP as well.
How to enable “Pin to Start Menu” for folders in XP and Vista
October 29th, 2007
You’d know that most of the shortcuts and programs when right clicked shows the “Pin to Start menu” context. However this isn’t possible for the folders. Most of the visitors of my blog are die-hard music, games etc fans and they would access these folders frequently, which usually leads to making shortcuts on the desktop, leading to more clutter on the already crowded desktop. Wouldn’t a simple option to pin the folder to the start menu come handy. Here are the steps which works both on Windows Xp and Vista.

“Pin to start menu” is not available for folder by default
