Intel prepares for Quad core price cuts

Intel seems to be in cut throat competition with AMD. They are trying to compete with every move taken by AMD. This time, its price cuts with Quad core processors.
AMD plans of making their new generation Quad core processors ready by Christmas.
Intel decided to cut the prices before AMDs launch of their new line of processors. Intels price cuts will be targetting mainly Intel’s quad-core desktop and server processors. The price cuts are to be scheduled on July 22.

1000 Jobs cut by intel

Intel announced that roughly 1000 jobs will be cut in New Mexico at its Rio Rancho plant which is also known as the Fab 11X. The job cut is around 20% which is really hefty.

At to biggest dissapointment, some of the workers who are included in the job cut are highly experienced with around 25 years experience. Intel indicated that it will be offering employees severance packages and the option to reapply for a job within the company.

Last year Intel had reduced the entire global workforce by 10500, which was around 10% of the total workforce of intel worldwide.

Core 2 Extreme QX6800 launched by Intel

Intel today launched its very powerful quad core QX6800. The new Core 2 Extreme QX6800 clocks in at 2.93 GHz.
The QX6800 features 8MB of total L2 cache and an unlocked upper multiplier for overclocking goodness.

And an addition to it, the new QX6800 shares the 65nm Kentsfieldcore. Intel expects to introduce 45nm Penryn-based processors in the second half of 2007 which will reduce the power consumption as well. The QX6800 is Intel’s 4th consumer quad-core processor, whereas AMD hasnt launched its Barcelona yet.

 Apple unveils New 8-core Mac Pro

Wanna do more! Lets do 8-cores. Apple now has 8-cores of raw muscle power on to their new Mac Pro. The 8-cores of Intel processing power spread across 2 Intel’s Clovertown quad-core chips.  Guess what, you get it just in time for Adobe’s Intel optimized Creative Suite 3.0. Starting prices at $2,499 for 2.66GHz quad-core you can shell out an extra $1,498 for total of 8-cores running at 3GHz. This time thou their won’t be a standard edition, just write up your notepad upto 33-million possible configurations.

 Apple TV OS now downloadable

Love it or hate it, Apple TV OS is now on the torrents. Over last weekend you would know that Apple’s latest Apple TV got hacked and slashed to unlock all kinda capabilities from new codec supports to bigger Hard drives. But big this is that someone has discovered that Apple TV is running a stripped-down, modded version of OS X. But we not sure! how someone created disk image of the Apple TV OS and put up for download( A sweet 200MB). Well we wont provide you with the link, and besides that the link is not available.

45nm UMPC processor by Intel coming soon

With lot of new processors flooding by intel, theres another processor which Intel is developing specifically for the UMPC platform. The processor will be one of six new processor manufactured on Intel’s 45 nanometer manufacturing process. Usually while developing a mobile computing platform, battery life is always a concern with device manufacturers but in the case of the Ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) platform, battery life has been a major issue since the devices typically use processors originally designed for notebook computers.

Dual Quad core Mac Pro coming soon...

The details of the eight-core Mac Pro have been leaked by UK Apple Store. A new dual quad core Mac pro is goin to come very soon. Apple is preparing a dual quad-core Mac Pro according to an accidental listing on the Apple UK Store website.

The listing was finally found out by Apple promptly found and removed.
It revealed the quad-core Mac Pro in search results when users searched for “Mac.” The quick description listed the Mac Pro as “Now quad-core or 8-core processing power. Configure yours today.”
