Recently Sony’s PS3 again was in the news with rumors about a possible 120GB PS3 coming in following weeks, but Sony representatives have responded that have no such plans under wraps, atleast in the UK.

“We do not currently have any plans to release a 120GB PlayStation 3 in the UK” (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, SCEE)
But hey if its not in UK, then what about outside UK.

Just few days back i checkout some blogs and came to know Sony Australia would dish out a free Playstation 3 with a purchase of any Bravia 1080p LCD TV. Now Sony has gave something to cheer for the people in the states but with some basic changes.

Before purchasing a Sony HDTV you either should already have a SonyCard or have to apply for a new one. All in all a fantastic deal, a Sony HDTV and a PS3….Wow thats what you call New years present. Better hurry though, the promotion ends on Dec. 31st.Now lets see what Microsoft gono offer…….two Xbox 360’s on the purchase of one.

Recently Sony laid out it plans to make the PS3 much cheaper with component removals. But today MCV reports that a new Playstation 2 model might hit US by next year for just $99. The new model as reported might sport a more “compact” design and have a “built-in power supply.”

The decision may also come as Sony’s sometime back decided to drop all backwards compatibility from the new 40GB PS3 model. But as usual Sony representatives “refused to comment” over it. But I’m sure they are regretting their decision on dropping PS2 compatibility from the PS3. Now question is would you go for a spanking new PS3 or the 7 year old veteran the PS2. Whats your take on this guys?

Atlast Sony confirms the new 40GB Playstation 3. The new PS3 isn’t just a toned down version of the previous editions. Thou the hard disk have been cut down to 40GB, Sony decided its time for the newer 65nm version of the Cell processor and the RSX.

The new processor would run much cooler and quieter, plus reduction of power consumption to around 135 Watts down from 200 Watts. Other changes include the new motherboard. At the same time, Sony installs the revised Heat Pipe, which now seems less massive. To save the system time integrates Sony also is a button battery on the motherboard. Finally PS3 will be cheap enough for a poor guy like me.

Last holiday season Sony’s PS3 console faced its fair share of challenges. Sony’s latest hope in the console race is the upcoming version of the console that sheds some weight to get the price level of its competitors. Even at the $600 price tag Sony’s next gen console could have sold like hot cakes if only it had console selling games like Halo 3 at the launch. It had a great Blu-ray disc player, basically it was a powerhouse of a system but without games PS3 is just a playboy’s fantasy.

For the past few days rumor mills were crunching the possibility of a €399(Euro not Dollar) PS3. Today Sony officially at London confirms this in fact is true. Its will be launched throughout all the SCEE territories” on October 10th for €399 ($565).

But before you gets hands on one of these mind it only comes with just a pair of USB 2.0 ports rather than the usual four, no multi-memory card port and it no longer backward compatible with the PlayStation 2 titles.

OLED display has been buzzing since long time but never made it to TV sets, maybe few gadgets like MP3 players. But Sony Corp yesterday confirms an ultra-thin flat TV based on the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology will ship starting this December 1.

The debutant XEL-1 is a 11 inch display TV sports a “crazy contrast ratio” of 1,000,000:1, thats crazy. But most consumers will give it a pass this because of the paltry resolution of just 960 x 540 which is way short of true HD. Actually original prototype boast as resolution of 1024 x 600, maybe because of technical difficulties they dropped the idea.
